JKA Karate

JKA style karate, also known as Shotokan, is a martial art training system through which the practitioner will master blocking, punching, kicking and striking techniques as well as joint manipulation techniques, take- downs and releases.

Shotokan is characterized by strong linear movements and the maintenance of a low center of gravity. Generally, the basic principle in shotokan technique is on getting from point A to point B in the shortest time possible.  JKA method of training (mainly) revolves around Kihon (basic techniques), Kumite (sparring) and Kata (forms). True to the words ‘empty hand’ traditional Shotokan Karate does not involve using or training with weapons, though some of the techniques built into the katas are intended to train the responses to attacks with weapons like the stick, the sword or knife.

Shotokan is practiced as a ‘non-contact’ training system with emphasis placed on ones’ ability to ‘Control’  - not only physically but also the mind.

For the longest time JKA shotokan has been recognized as an effective training system for managing a violent attacker and has been offered at various police academies worldwide.
